Our Recent Trip

Recently we took a little trip.  We started out by traveling to Ohio.  We like to spend our first night at Delaware State Park just outside of Columbus.  After 3 attempts to leave our house and the blunders that followed, all in all it was a good ride with a one hour rest break.  We arrived at camp at 4 a.m.!  The next day we were up bright and early and headed off to meet a family in Columbus.  John had gone to camp this summer and one of the boys he met and keeps in touch with lives there.  We spent the better part of the day with that delightful family.  We took off sometime in the afternoon for Westbranch State park on the east side of the state.  We set up just a little so we could run off to the monestary.  One of the treats on our Ohio trips is visiting the priests and brothers at St. Paul’s Monestary in Canfield.  We arrived in time for some dinner and we got to see many of our friends as well.  The next 3 days were the Holy Family Insitute Triduum at Our Lady Of Lebanon Shrine.  The following Monday we spent at the shrine again.  Now, the only disappointment is that I did not take any pictures.  I am anxiously awaiting Fr. Mike’s slide show.   Once again, Joe helped the brothers fix the golf cart.  MaryEllen got to drive for the first time this year.  It was quite comical.  After lunch we left and headed down to Virginia.  We ran into so many people that we knew and it was so nice.  We spent one day in the DC area with our highlight being the Basilica of the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception.  It had been so long since we had been there that the children really didn’t remember it.  I took one picture inside and just a few outside.

The next day we were back in that area.  It had been a long time since we went to Arlington National Cemetery as well.  We went and saw Joe’s parents’ and his sister’s graves.  After that we visited very good friends of ours and Joe’s brother.

We stayed an extra day, but it was worth it as Joe and I got to go out with the couple we stayed with and their daughter and her fiancée.  (The next generation, which was neat!)   We stopped at Hungry Mother State park to dump the tanks in the trailer and the camp host there was a nice man who was born and raised in Lewisburg, TN!  It’s a small world.

That’s the church where I got MaryEllen her First Communion gift! I’m thinking, though, that for Charlotte’s First Communion, maybe I ought to get her some sunglasses…?

I’m so glad you all had a great trip. I hope it wasn’t too hot in D.C. for you. It’s sure hot enough for me…!

    Much love,
