No Baby Yet!

Here e-mail that I got from a friend of mine today…

Ok Kristen, today it the day! 08-08-08, it will be 8 minutes of labor for an 8 lb baby! WHooeeeee. Good luck!

Well, there isn’t even any action here at just before noon, so I wouldn’t count on it.  Also, cooking class is tomorrow and if I have the baby today, I’ll miss that.

I’ve been meaning to blog for a while now.  Truthbe told, I haven’t even had my camera out for several weeks.  But, a few weeks ago I was ready to have Joe plow the garden under.  I am still a bit frustrated withit, but not like I was then.  It was a lush green with no signs of anything producing, except maybe the greenbeans.  Then the Japanese beetles came and ate all those lovely leaves.  The other problem is the weeds.  The children just do not want to help at all.  The watermelons are so immeshed in weeds, that I don’t think any of them will make it.  The other problem was how hard it was to pull the weeds.  The next day we got a nice rain and I went out into the garden after my walk.  I pulled weeds and they actually came out!  I weeded around some squash plants and cucumber plants.  Lo and behold I found some squash and cucumber!  So, that is what I have been doing.  Weeding around certain plant when I can and finding vegetables.  This morning I found Japanese Long Cucumbers that are about a foot and a half long.  I hope they taste as good as they look.  I have not had any bitter cucumbers this year, so that is good.  Something have gotten to the zucchini plants I had.  We only got a few.  A few days ago I was weeding the cucumbers and wondered how one grew perfectly round.   Then it came to me.  That was a baby watermelon, not a cucumber.  Of course, I may not be able to find it again.  The pumpkin patch is coming along.  Most of the seeds didn’t make it due to a certain cat and a bunch of ants.  But, the ones that did make it are doing good.  I just hope they can beat out the squash bugs and root borers.

We had a nice lovely rain yesterday, well, with nasty thunderstorms.  We lost my second modem of the year!   The line was hooked into a protector, but it just didn’t protect it.  I was sitting at my desk with the computer off and I heard it pop.  So, Joe set up a line where I can manually disconnect it when we are not home or have a storm.   Hopefully that will help.

One more thing, we have apples this year!  An older man told us this was the first year in about 7 that they have apples.  I must admit, the outsides don’t look so lovely, but they kids go out, pick them and peel them and they are fine.  As a matter of fact they are waiting for me to make apple pie today.  This is A week.  We are revisiting Along the Alphabet Path at the Serendipity blog.

That leads to school.  I have been trying to get plans laid out for the first few weeks or even months of school and for the younger ones we will be taking advantage of the plans up at Serendipity.  They are doing a colonial America study that sounds like fun.  The only one who had in depth American History so far is John.  He’ll be on his own studying Ancient Greece and Rome more in depth using the Mother of Divine Grace 7th grade syllabus.  He’ll also be following their religion and poetry plans.   Kevin will be following a few of their suggestions for his 5th grade level as well as some of the Serendipity plans.  Hopefully it will all work out.  MaryEllen is ready to learn to read so that is a priority this year as well.

Well, that is a longer post than I imagined.  MaryEllen just came in with a lovely red apple and told me the counter is now full so I can start the pie and Charlotte just told me she has a poopy diaper.  So, that’s all for now!

One more thing…that same friend just sent me another e-mail…
Oh, I forgot to add, the birth should be at 8:08 pm.!!! Get to it already!

Well, I thought 8-8-08 was a great day to be born as well…but I guess your babe has other plans. Enjoy your cooking class tomorrow, then let’s get this show on the road already! 🙂

I wondered, as I sent you an email and it bounced back — thought maybe your inbox was too full because you’d had the baby, but guess not.

Praying for it to be soon. Maybe on the feast of the Assumption? That’s not that far away…..

Have you guys looked at or purchased the David Macaulay books on castles, pyramids, cathedrals, and Roman cities? They are fantastic – great for all ages! ( I loved the Roman cities book – reading about John’s upcoming school studies made me think of it…
